New York 2011: Presenting the 2013 Ford Taurus SHO and its 365 ponies

Looking at a Taurus SHO, someone who doesn’t know what it’s capable of would automatically categorize it as a geezer’s car – until it leaps, roaring, to life with the stealth of a cheetah. The surprising sedan has been lightly upgraded for the 2013 model year, namely in terms of engines and design.

The model unwrapped at the New York Auto show today uses the same 3.5-litre, turbocharged V6 pumping out 365 hp and 350 ft-lb of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel paddles.

Though it basically seems identical, the new version benefits from a wider master cylinder, improved throttle response and larger, vented brakes for better cooling.

There’s also a new torque distribution system that acts a bit like a limited-slip differential, a sportier suspension ensuring superior handling and standard all-wheel drive.

The car sports a darkened grille, high-intensity headlamps, unique 19-inch wheels as well as rear-view mirrors and a spoiler that give it a more muscular look than the other models. What’s more, it will include, for the first time since its introduction, the MyFord Touch system – free of charge.
