2012 Ford Focus introduces torque vectoring control

2012 Ford Focus introduces torque vectoring control

The highly anticipated 2012 Ford Focus is slowly coming out of the shadows, and the American automaker has announced that the model will be delivered standard with a torque vectoring control system that will increase stability in corners by lightly applying the brakes on one side only.

Developed by Ford, the technology complements the stability control system and is based on downhill skiing and snowboarding techniques, where you carve your way down a mountainside by shifting your weight.

In the case of the Focus, the torque vectoring control will apply a slight braking pressure to the wheel and tire that are most likely to slip, allowing the driver to corner smoothly. In concrete terms, more torque will be distributed to the outside drive wheel during acceleration in tight corners, increasing the vehicle’s stability.

Though the process will be imperceptible, it will make all the difference for novice drivers and those who lack confidence behind the wheel. They’ll be able to get more out of their Focus experience without paying a premium.

According to Ford, the new Focus will hit dealerships in early 2011.
